Victorian Major Projects
Conference 2010
"Securing the State's Economy Today by building a
better Infrastructure for Tomorrow"

WELCOME MESSAGE FROM
Hon. Justin Madden MP
Minister for Planning - Victoria

Justin Madden

In the wake of the economic downturn, the Victorian Government has embarked on the biggest investment program in the state’s history.

The Victorian Government has fast-tracked planning decisions for key infrastructure projects to boost investment and create jobs.  The planning process has also been streamlined so that Victoria can claim its share of funding through the Federal Government’s Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan.

As of March, the State Government had assessed more than 480 schools and 200 social housing projects, meaning we have facilitated around $4 billion of investment in social infrastructure.

Beyond the bricks and mortar of schools and housing, other major infrastructure projects will position our state for future economic growth.

Significant commercial and public infrastructure projects in our activity centres are an integral part of the State Government’s plan for managing Melbourne’s growth in line with Melbourne @ 5 million.

Investment in activity centres will give Melbournians better access to jobs, facilities and transport, which means less demand will be placed on our transport networks as people live closer to their workplaces.

Our strong financial health means the Victorian Government can invest in major projects, such as Regional Rail Link and the Parkville Comprehensive Cancer Centre, to secure jobs.

Work on Victoria’s desalination plant is well underway, and by the end of 2011, the plant will be capable of meeting around a third of Melbourne’s annual water supply as well as provide water to Geelong and other regional towns.  The Victorian Government is also working with Australian companies and international investors to secure Victoria’s future energy requirements.

The Victorian Major Projects Conference '10 will be held on the 23 and 24 August 2010 at the Crown Promenade Hotel.

This year, the conference will examine the large scale projects in the pipeline that will shape the state, giving the public and private sectors a better understanding of the market opportunities.

I encourage you to take advantage of all that this conference will offer.  This is an ideal opportunity to network with other delegates, sponsors and representatives from state and local governments.

The investment that we see today will play an important role in helping to address the challenges of a growing, changing population and meet the needs of future generations.

I look forward to seeing you at the Victorian Major Projects Conference '10.

Hon. Justin Madden MP
Minister for Planning - Victoria

INTRODUCTION

Following the successful completion of the Victorian Major Projects Conference in August ’09, where we attracted over 300 delegates with major key stake holders involved in major projects within Victoria, we are excited to announce our 2010 Victorian Major Projects Conference from 23 – 24 August at the Crown Conference Centre.

This year’s conference is supported by Department Of Planning and Community Development.

The 2010 Victorian Major Projects Conference will be a 2 day event which
will focus on the significant investments continued to be made by the government into major projects that are currently being worked upon as well as projects that are in the
pipeline. It will cover areas of Housing, Education, Health, Urban Planning, Transport, Water, Energy, Sustainability, and the overall State's Development.

Presentations from leading government and industry specialists will explore the
design, planning, construction and implementation of major projects as well as a

expansion programs for accelerating Victoria’s development.

The conference will provide its delegates with the perfect opportunity to discuss
topics and issues presented and provide a fantastic networking opportunity where they
